Lake in the Hills seeks private donors to help build veterans memorial

Veteransmemorialconcept

Lake in the Hills' Veterans Memorial Committee is seeking donors to sponsor components of a planned veterans memorial at Village Hall.

The memorial would consist of a granite wall with five slabs, each topped with a flag of one of the branches of the U.S. military. The Illinois state flag, U.S. flag and POW/MIA flags would be flanked by four benches and stand alone in front of the slabs.

The plan was presented and approved by the Committee of the Whole in August 2013, with the village committing $40,000 toward the project, but organizers said they need more funds from private donations and grants to proceed.

Residents or businesses are invited to help reach the fundraising goal by sponsoring a component of the memorial. Each of the five monument walls is $10,000, the concrete pathway in front of the walls is $5,000, each of the eight flags is $2,500, and each of the four benches is $2,000. Sponsors will have their names displayed near the component they sponsor.

Donations are being accepted at Village Hall during normal business hours, as well as at both Lake in the Hills First National Bank locations.
