Woodstock businesses look to give back through 'Giving Trees'

Christmastree

Businesses in downtown Woodstock are looking to give back by supporting local charities through “Giving Trees” on Tuesday, which is Giving Tuesday.

Stores have been matched to a charity, and the trees, or displays, in the stores offer customers a chance to support the charity by following the instructions on an ornament they select from the tree or display.

"I hope that it will become an annual tradition,” Connie Citarelli, owner of Green Box Boutique, said.

Citraelli put together this year’s event for local businesses, and she said this is the spirit of the holiday season. In order to get the event organized, she contacted several local charities and then partnered them with local, downtown businesses.

Each store has various parameters for giving. Some charities only accept cash or gift cards, while others accept packages.

Organizations participating and the charities they are partnered with include Helping Paws Animal Welfare Association - Blues Inspired, Pits for Patriots - Down 2 Earth, Adult & Child Therapy Services - Green Box Boutique, Woodstock School District 200 - Jaci’s Cookies, Free Guitars for Future Stars - Material Things Artisan Market, Jail Brakers - Pzazz Gifts, District 200 Education Foundation - Read Between the Lynes, Sheltered Village - The Thoughtfulness Shop, Woodstock Food Pantry - Tresors, Helping Paws Animal Welfare Association  - Helping Paws Animal Welfare Association.
