Spring Grove takes action against roosters

Twilightfortheroosterinspringgrove

The Spring Grove Village Board recently approved a new ordinance categorizing the keeping of roosters as a nuisance and establishing a $100 fine per bird for anyone caught raising roosters on any village lot not zoned for agriculture.

The ordinance approved at its Nov. 17 meeting says the animals, when raised in a non-agricultural setting, create problems with noise, a concern that was vouched or by residents who have spoken at previous board meetings.

The Public Works Department reported it completed patching eight local roads and will continue sign maintenance and repairs, as well as amending shoulder gravel on several streets.

The village also approved a new vehicle for the building department and a contract with Power Energy Solutions, Inc. for the upgrading of LED lighting fixtures through an incentive program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Illinois Clean Energy.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 15.
