Why no McHenry Historic District, commission wants to know

Citycouncil

Why isn’t there a historic district in the city of McHenry? That was one of the topics discussed at the McHenry Landmark Commission meeting Oct. 6.

The commission also discussed endangered historic buildings in McHenry.

Landmarks Commissioner Suzanne Kotomski asked why McHenry doesn’t have a historic district. In the past, there had been work to get a historic district, but there wasn’t any follow through. Kotomski said she plans on doing some research on the past work and will gather more information on a historic district.

Landmarks Commissioners Kaaren Gies and Robin Schmidt said they are planning on putting a list together of endangered buildings that are historic.
