Cary village trustees will discuss wastewater treatment options.

Cary village trustees will meet as a committee of the whole at 6 p.m. Tuesday to discuss an alternative wastewater treatment method.

The village has been undertaking a feasibility study relating to methods to remove biological phosphorus from wastewater due to requirements set by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. These processes are being implemented and considered to meet these requirements to limit the use of chemical additives to treated water prior to discharging it into Fox River.

During the meeting, trustees will discuss another treatment method will also be introduced. This method, from Ostara of Vancouver, utilizes materials from wastewater and is capable of producing fertilizer that is ecologically viable and could theoretically sold. The wastewater consultant for the village will be presenting information from the company regarding this treatment option.
