McHenry County is seeking nominations for its Green Awards.

McHenry County is seeking nominations for its Green Awards.

The McHenry Department of Health (MCDH) said this week that it is taking nominations for the county’s Green Awards for 2016.

Nominations may be made for individuals; businesses that serve in manufacturing, food service, retail, hotels and offices; institutions including schools, hospitals and other care facilities; and government services and organizations.

The awards are given to entities that take efforts to reduce the amount of waste produced, conservation and recycling activity. The awards also recognize programs that have had a positive impact on their communities and have encouraged sustainable practices on a larger scale.

Winners will be selected by the McHenry County Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

Entries need to include information on the program, how it carries out recycling activity and how the program differs from other programs. Entries also will need to provide accomplishment criteria that can include volume of items recycled or weight. Entries also need information on education and outreach activity. Imagery is welcome, but is optional.

Entries will need to be submitted via email to MCDH Solid Waste Manager Kristy Hecke at klhecke@co.mchenry.il.us or by fax at 815-334-4637.
