Huntley issues moratorium on permits for pawn shops, resellers
The Huntley Village Board voted Jan. 28 to approve a moratorium on issuing occupancy permits and other developmental documents for businesses that could be classified as resellers, pawn shops or personal loan agencies.
The meeting minutes state that the moratorium was put in place in order to further determine what the appropriate zoning classification should be used and what regulations would need to be in place for these kinds of businesses. The board noted that there had been increased inquiries for these kinds of facilities and currency exchange uses in the village.
The moratorium will be in place until July 1. During the moratorium period, the village will be reviewing regulatory and zoning practices for such establishments.
The meeting minutes state that businesses that operate in this area could have potential detrimental effects on village development and in the area of bringing diverse business types to the village.
The Village Board also approved a measure to include the addition of veterinary hospitals as a special use category within the manufacturing zoning district, the approval of the Town Square Concept Improvement Plan and a proposal for design engineering services in relation to village wastewater treatment plants.
