The Marengo City Council recently met to approve an annexation agreement.
The Marengo City Council voted to approve an annexation agreement that consisted of 80 acres owned by Jack Pease at its Feb. 8 meeting.
The property is located south of the Meyer Road and Pleasant Grove Road intersection and west of Route 23.
The vote for approval followed a partial public hearing that had been initiated at a previous meeting. According to the minutes, there were no public comments during the hearing and the session was focused on questions posed by the council, including activities at the site like mineral extraction and processing, and the concerns of neighbors. It was noted at the time of the meeting that, in previous correspondence, neighbors did not raise any concerns.
The meeting minutes also note that there have been changes made to the county codes, which would need to be addressed within the agreement. The agreement was approved with one council member in opposition.
This meeting also facilitated a vote that approved a special use permit for extraction and processing of earth materials at the site. One council member voted against the measure.
This meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:06 p.m., following an executive session.
