McHenry Community College volleyballers eliminated at national NJCAA tourney

The McHenry Community College volleyball team was eliminated from the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship, with its 3-2 loss to Metropolitan Community College-Longview on Nov. 18 in Charleston, West Virginia.

Game scores were 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 18-20, according to www.mchenry.edu.

Sommer Rhea had 27 kills and 11 digs for the Scots, according to njcaa.org. Kayli Trausch had 22 kills and six block assists, and Kyla Fitzsimmons had 18 kills. Anna Schupbach had a team-high 13 digs, while Payton Traff had 65 assists.

The Scots faced Longview in the consolation bracket after they lost their first-round game to Kirkwood on Nov. 17. Game scores were 17-25, 24-26, 18-25. Rhea had 12 kills and 10 digs, while Trausch had 11 kills. Fitzsimmons had four solo blocks, Amanda Sagen had 18 digs and Traff had 30 assists.

The Scots ended the season with a 28-14 record.
