Analysis: Sales tax funded 7 percent of City of Crystal Lake budget in 2016

The City of Crystal Lake's local sales tax brought in $5,040,729 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. Crystal Lake, population 40,743, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 7 percent of total revenue that year.

Crystal Lake levies a 0.75 percent sales tax. 

McHenry Times analyzed the sales tax collections in Crystal Lake and found it generated a total of $5,040,729 in tax revenue in 2016, the equivalent of 7 percent spent by local government.
