Marengo Community High School District 154 Board met November 27.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the board of Education of District #154 was held at the high school on November


27, 2017.

President Henning called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

Present: Henning, Dujmovich, Ranzino, Torman, Volkening and Kanaly.

Absent: Signore.

Administration: Engelbrecht, Fink.

Guests: Boys Cross Country team members, coaches and parents

Press: None

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to approve the following consent agenda items: the

minutes of the regular October 10 & 23, 2017 Board Meetings; to not release the executive session

minutes of October 10 & 23, 2017; to pay the financial obligations of the district as presented; the

October treasurer’s report; to accept the October summary reports for the investments of the John

Swanson Trust, Union American Legion donation; and the Franks Family Fund; and review the October

summary reports for the Kooi and Pingel Educational Trust investments. Roll Call Vote: 6 Ayes, 0 Nays.

Motion Carried.

The Board recognized the following Boys Cross Country Team members for advancing to the 2017 IHSA

boys State Cross Country meet: Ales Leonard, Jadon Kozin, Luke Chaffin, Aaron Moehrlin, CJ Arevalo,

Brant Lesher and Zach Secor. Coach Kenny Johnson introduced each athlete and the board presented

them with a certificate of recognition.

Moved by Ranzino and seconded by Volkening to approve hiring Greg Halverson as Assistant Boys

Track Coach for the 2017-18 season; to employ Henry Larson as a volunteer Assistant Wrestling Coach

for the 2017-18 season; to hire Jessica Ferreira, Michael Shahid and Ellen Siracusa as student workers;

and to hire James Gritschke as the musical vocal director for the 2017-18 school year. Voice Vote:

Motion Carried.

Principal Fink arrived at 7:17 p.m.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to recommend a first reading of the proposed Board policy

changes and additions. Voice Vote: Motion Carried.

Moved by Torman and seconded by Dujmovich to approve the proposed estimated aggregate tax levy on

the 2017 property tax assessments, which is less than 105% of the amount of property taxes extended for

the final aggregate levy in the preceding year and to approve the Truth in Taxation Certificate of

Compliance. Voice Vote: Motion Carried.

Julie Amendt arrived at 7:31 p.m.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to approve an overnight trip for the boys Baseball Team to

the “Play the Turf” high school jamboree in Jacksonville, IL on March 23, 2018. Voice Vote: Motion

Carried.

Moved by Volkening and seconded by Kanaly to go into executive session at 8:00 p.m. to discuss student

discipline and personnel. Roll Call Vote: 6 Ayes, 0 Nays. Motion Carried.

The board returns to the regular meeting at 8:45 p.m.

Superintendent/Board report:

      1. Discussed the IASB conference in Chicago and the IASB list of calendar events.

      2. No discussion on the School business Daily reports.

      3. Discussed the Lighting rebates that are available from Energy Solutions.

      4. Discussed curriculum updates.

      5. Discussed upcoming dates.

There being no other business, Volkening moved the meeting be adjourned at 9:22 p.m.
