Huntley Community School District 158 issued the following announcement on July 30.
In 2016, Huntley Community School District 158 entered into a 3-year contract with Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center to serve as the venue for Huntley High School’s graduation. This arrangement has offered many advantages. NIU offers a large cost savings over our previous venue, the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, and allows our students’ guests to attend for free, something we value greatly.
At the time of initial contract, the best date available for us was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. We have just completed the final year of that contract, and during the renewal process we were offered a chance to select a different date for our ceremony.
Based on feedback from our teachers, community, and district administration, HHS has taken the opportunity to move our graduation date off of Memorial Day weekend.
The new date, beginning with the Class of 2019, will be the Saturday before Memorial Day weekend. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. each year:
Class of 2019 – May 18, 2019
Class of 2020 – May 16, 2020
Class of 2021 – May 22, 2021
An additional hold on three years beyond this contract has been placed on this same weekend, if we choose to renew in 2021.
We are pleased to take this opportunity to be responsive to the feedback we heard from our community and to free up the Memorial Day weekend for our families.
