A. Scenic Road Designation Public Meeting

Alden Road

Mr. Greeley thanked Ms. VanDan for submitting the Scenic Drive application.

Motion by Ms. Schadt, seconded by Mr. Casal to start the public hearing. All members voted aye, motion passed.

Ms. VanDan stated she has lived on the road for 48 years. The Road is about 11 miles long starting at Highway 457 and ending at Lakeview Road in Wisconsin. The road is beautiful both in the summer and in the fall. There are a lot of beautiful trees, with old houses that have interesting architecture and nice gardens.

Mr. Greeley noted that technically, Alden Road starts at Highway 47 and goes into Wisconsin, and the Historic Preservation Commission cannot nominate the part that is in Wisconsin, so the northern end point would be at State Line Road.

Mr. Greeley pointed out that the official Alden Road starts at Nelson, and before that, it is Charles Road. He stated the Commission does not want to confuse anyone and say that it is Alden Road when it is officially Charles Road. The Commission would want decide if we want to nominate Alden Road, but have it start at Nelson Road.

Motion by Ms. Schadt, seconded by Mr. Casal to approve Alden Road from Nelson Road to State Line Road as a McHenry County Scenic Drive.

Mr. Greeley stated, in his estimation, Alden Road is a beautiful road that shows the diverse nature of the County and gives a great overview of the rural nature the area. He noted Alden is a beautiful country community in Alden with all of it's rich history, and it is worthy of being one of our Scenic Roads.

All members voted aye, motion passed.

Motion by Ms. Zeller, seconded by Mr. Casal to close the public hearing. All members voted aye, motion passed.

The Commission hopes to have a dedication ceremony sometime in the spring Ms. VanDan mentioned that the Alden Township property would be good location.

B. Interview Candidate for Commission Member

Mr. Greeley noted that the applicant withdrew her application.

C. Scenic Road Sign Expenditure

Alden Road

Mr. Frackler stated the he spoke to the McHenry County Division of Transportation, and they stated they can produce the sign in house.

Usually they produce two signs, one at each end of the road, but because Alden is a long road, four signs will be produced at the cost of around $350 which includes installing the signs.

The Commission discussed having sign one at the south end of the road, and two, one in each direction at the intersection of Alden and Rt. 173. And one at the end near State Line Road.

Motion by Ms. Zeller, seconded by Ms. Schadt to approve up to $400 to pay for 4 signs for the Alden Scenic Road.
