Truancy rates in McHenry County districts worsened in 2021-22 school year compared to previous school year

Students in McHenry County districts had a truancy rate of 7.5% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. This was a decrease from the previous school year's rate of 10.1%.

There were 45,566 students enrolled in McHenry County districts in the 2021-22 school year, of which 3,405 students were absent throughout the year.

The districts located in the county had a dropout rate 2.8%, which was 1.3% higher than the year before.

Across the county, Cary Community Consolidated School District 26 suffered the most truancy issues (29.1%) in the 2021-22 school year. Meanwhile, Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 successfully recorded the lowest truancy rate in the region (1.6%).
