Ted Dabrowski, a gubernatorial candidate for Illinois, announced his intention to pursue an annual cap on home assessment increases and broader reforms aimed at reducing property-tax cost drivers. The announcement was made during a meet-and-greet event held on December 12, 2025, in Marengo.
“Property taxes are residents’ number-one concern no matter where I go in Illinois,” said Dabrowski. “The punitive bills Illinoisans are forced to pay are squeezing people out of their homes and driving them out of the state. As governor, I will push for a cap on the amount your home’s assessment can increase yearly. I will also champion common-sense reforms that will bring the cost-drivers of property taxes down.”
According to the event notice, Dabrowski’s comments were part of a campaign outreach effort designed to engage voters directly. The event took place at the Marengo Union Library and was positioned as part of a statewide initiative to connect with residents in person.
A 2025 analysis by the Illinois Policy Institute highlights that Illinois homeowners face one of the highest property-tax burdens in the nation. The report states that typical Illinois families pay more than double the national average to remain in their homes, framing this issue as a significant factor influencing household costs and relocation decisions.
Dabrowski is currently serving as president of Wirepoints and has previously held positions as vice president of policy and spokesman for the Illinois Policy Institute. His professional background includes 16 years with Citibank in international roles, including assignments in Mexico and Poland, where he held senior responsibilities in corporate and investment banking.
