At its April 13 meeting, the Huntley Village Board honored a police officer whose efforts saved the life of a man in distress.
Village president Timothy Hoeft and Police Chief Robert Porter called up officer Doug Ingallinera to honor him for his actions.
On Dec. 6, 2022, Ingallinera responded to a 911 call made from a local fitness center where a man had collapsed and become unresponsive on the running track. Fitness center employees and personnel tried some first aid efforts, administering a shock with an automated external defibrillator, but by the time Officer Ingallinera and Huntley Fire personnel arrived on scene, the man still did not have a pulse.
The fire personnel and Ingallinera took turns performing chest compressions, and after another shock from the AED, the man, Dennis Wolff, acquired a pulse. He was taken to a hospital where he recovered.
“Officer Ingellinera’s actions are a positive reflection of the Huntley Police Department’s mission statement and that the Huntley Police Department is committed to providing professional services for a well-trained staff,” Porter said. “Officer Ingellinera relied on his training and his professional approach to his duties to in fact save a life.”
Battalion Chief Eric Bentley said that Ingallinera’s quick response and immediate actions, and performing lifesaving measures along with the rescue personnel and paramedics, was a great team effort and a testament to the departments’ positive working relationship.
Wolff was in attendance and came to the podium to shake hands with Ingallinera and thank him for his actions.
Porter made additional comments, praising the area first responders who are always ready to sacrifice themselves for others. He also recalled the two Chicago area firefighters who fell in action in past weeks.
