State Representative Steve Reick announced that assistance is available from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) “to improve traffic safety, make travel more accessible, increase transportation choices, and help them prosper in the years ahead.” He made the statement in an Aug. 7 Facebook post.
“Dozens of communities throughout northeastern Illinois will receive technical assistance from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to improve traffic safety, make travel more accessible, increase transportation choices, and help them prosper in the years ahead,” said Steven E Reick, State Representative for 63rd District (R), according to Facebook.
In his Facebook post, Reick directed constituents to his website, where he explained the CMAP program and how the Woodstock community ADA Plan qualifies. According to CMAP, they received more than 120 applications from 96 applicants and selected 30 applications to assist communities with ADA compliance, transportation safety, and long-term planning needs. The CMAP website states that these annual calls are done with the Regional Transportation Authority as part of the organization’s work to provide regional planning for northeastern Illinois. The program includes multiple cohorts, and the Woodstock community is part of the second largest cohort. This cohort includes pavement management plans for Addison, Fox Lake, and Indian Head Park; ADA plans for Woodstock, Warrenville, and Elgin; the Lake Villa NEXT Plan Implementation assistance; and the Matteson Capital Improvement Plan.
Woodstock will work with CMAP to develop a public right-of-way self-evaluation and transition plan in compliance with Title II obligations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to a news release on Reick’s website, CMAP put out a call for projects to 284 cities, villages, communities, nonprofits, community groups, and organizations in the region. The technical assistance program provides planning and implementation assistance to build local government capacity and leverage the region’s transit network.
This work is part of CMAP’s “ON TO 2050” comprehensive plan to guide investments in transportation and northeastern Illinois’ travel priorities. First adopted in October 2018, the plan articulates “a shared vision of economic prosperity and quality of life.” The long-range plan is updated every four years to ensure that it fits current conditions.
Reick is a longtime resident of Illinois. He graduated from Herscher High School and attended the University of Illinois, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy. He later obtained a Juris Doctor and master’s degree in accountancy and taxation from the University of Georgia. Elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 2016, he now represents the 63rd House District.
