U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Dist. 14) said recently that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will contribute over $48 million in federal funding for several types of affordable housing projects to the State of Illinois for the 2016 fiscal year, with Kane and Will Counties getting approximately $5 million.

Some of the $43 million in funds going to the state government also will be distributed to Kane and Will counties.

“Colder months are ahead in Illinois and the 14th District, and I’m pleased at the additional assistance provided to our neighbors most in need this next year,” Hultgren said. “I trust our state and local officials will use this funding efficiently and responsibly to ensure the ‘least of these’ in our communities are served well.”

The state’s 14th Congressional District covers McHenry, Lake, Kendall, Kane, DuPage, DeKalb and Will counties.

The funding is coming from four different federal grant programs: Community Development Block Grants focus on developing opportunities for low- and middle-income people living in urban areas; Emergency Solutions Grants provide funding to improve the availability of shelter facilities and other services that help the homeless; the HOME program funds affordable housing projects for low-income and very low-income people; and the HOPWA  (Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS) program funds support services for low-income residents and their families who are living with HIV/AIDS.
