McHenry County is planning ahead to reduce risks during natural disasters and needs residents' input in a brief survey to aid planning efforts.
The Natural Hazards Mitigation Survey includes McHenry County and its communities. Every five years, per federal regulations, the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan must be updated. The mitigation plan assesses and identifies McHenry County's natural hazard risks, which include severe weather such as hail, flooding, thunderstorms and tornados. Once the hazards are assessed, the plan determines the best ways for the cCounty and its communities to reduce risks and manage natural disasters.
The surveys are due by Dec. 18. Any residents wishing to participate in the brief survey can go to http://www.questionpro.co/t/AJ8IIZTCSK.
Residents interested in participating in the planning process are encouraged to attend the McHenry County Hazard Mitigation Committee meetings on Jan. 21 and Mar. 3 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the McHenry County Mental Health Building, 620 Dakota St., Crystal Lake. Local government, colleges, watershed groups, conservation districts and the Red Cross will also participate in planning the updated Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.
