The Lakewood Village Board agreed to table an ice cream truck ordinance at its Oct. 27 meeting.
The board discussed whether to allow ice cream trucks to operate within village limits, after receiving a recommendation from trustees to consider lifting the ban. Chief of Police Leigh Rawson presented research that outlined what an appropriate regulatory process for ice cream trucks might look like. It included an application process, background check, verification of truck safety and insurance, and liability exposure for the village.
Trustee Paul Serwatka said he had received numerous emails from residents who support having ice cream trucks in the village but were unaware the trucks were banned in the village. Other trustees expressed concern about the burden that regulating ice cream trucks would place on an already stretched village staff.
The board agreed to table the topic until more information can be compiled.
The board also approved a contract with Troy & Banks, Inc. for auditing services. The firm will audit of the village of Lakewood’s utility bills, taxes and franchise fees collected and only be paid if they find opportunities for saving the village money.
Before ending the meeting, the board approved the new McHenry County Stormwater Management Ordinance, bringing the village in compliance with new minimum standards for the National Flood Insurance Program.
