The Huntley Village Board recognized the 50th anniversary of the Huntley Park District at its Oct. 8 meeting.
Village President Charles Sass said the village is blessed to have a great park district, library district and school district.
The Huntley Park District was founded in 1965. Deicke Park was the first park in the district, the district now has 273 acres in 11 parks. There are a variety of neighborhood parks, as well as the Pinecrest Golf Course, the Stingray Bay Water Park and the Recreation Center, which is where the Cosman Theatre and the Tomaso Sports Park are located.
The village acknowledged that the park has played an important role in the quality of life of the citizens. There are 12,645 residents registered in the Huntley Park District and they enjoyed 780 programs that were offered within the past year.
