The village of Hebron will no longer be offering dental insurance to public works employee Ion Stear after the insurance company dropped the village's coverage due to low enrollment.
The Village Board approved a small pay raise for Stear to cover dental insurance at its Sept. 21 meeting.
Because only Stear had dental insurance, the insurance company decided to drop the coverage, Village President John Jacobsen said. In lieu of insurance, Jacobsen proposed giving Stear the $38 a month it would cost for dental insurance, however Trustee Susan Ritzert thought the board was not responsible to pay for Stear’s insurance.
After Trustee Mark Mogan broke down the cost of the dental insurance to 24 cents an hour, a motion was made and approved to increase Stear’s pay rate by 24 cents an hour to cover the insurance.
The Village Board also approved paying Hastings Asphalt $19,995 for road patching on Price Road. Public Works Superintendent Dan Nelson said there were no other quotes received for the work, despite phone calls to businesses.
Ritzert suggested the village wait for more quotes, but Mogan said it’ was too late in the season.
