The number of liquor licenses in the City of Crystal Lake soon may decrease, with an ordinance to reduce liquor licenses on the consent agenda of Crystal Lake’s City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in City Council Chambers, 100 W. Woodstock S.

Passing the ordinance would require an amendment to the city code. The ordinance would decrease the number of Class 15 liquor licenses allowed from three to two. The number of Class 13 liquor licenses would be reduced from 22 to 21.

A Class 13 license allows the sale of alcohol, but it can’t be consumed on the premises between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m., Monday through Friday, and between 7 a.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday. However, a Class B restaurant can be on the premises. The cost of this license is $625.

A Class 15 license allows the sale of alcohol that can be consumed on the premises between 11 a.m. and 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon and 1 a.m. on Sunday. These licenses are typically reserved for restaurants that have bars. A Class A restaurant can be on the premises. The cost for this license is $1,000.
