Woodstock's construction board discusses building codes.
The City of Woodstock Board of Building Construction held a meeting on Oct. 15 to discuss an addition to Niko's Red Mill Tavern.
While the architect for the restaurant and bar located at 1040 Lake Ave. initially intended to request a variance with regards to a section in the 2006 international building code related to fire protection systems, he changed his mind after obtaining new research just before the meeting commenced. He informed the board that he would provide documentation showing that he doesn't need to equip the building with a sprinkler system.
The board also talked about implementing 2015 I-Codes and approved the minutes from its April 9 meeting.
The meeting was attended by board members Mike Hall, John Kohler, Tom LaFontaine and John Loacker. Dan Streit, a building inspector for the city, was also present.
The Board of Building Construction schedules meetings on an as-needed basis and is tasked with reviewing proposed changes to City of Woodstock building codes. The city features numerous boards and commissions that meet regularly to offer citizens insight on various subjects, including economic development, transportation, zoning regulations and parks and recreation activities.
