The Village of Lake in the Hills’ Parks and Recreation Department focused on beach use and hours of operation at its Nov. 5, 2015, meeting.

According to the meeting notes, the gates at Indian Trail Beach are currently open between sunrise and sundown. The department is considering opening the beach exclusively for the summer months in order to eliminate the liability of not having a lifeguard on duty on a year-round basis. As of now, lifeguards are only on duty during the summer. Should this plan move forward, the beach would close following the Labor Day holiday and open back up for Memorial Day weekend.

Attendees also discussed family usage of the beach during the fall.

The meeting featured Parks and Recreation Director Laura Barron, who presented a report from the People for Parks Foundation Pub in the Park, the budget for 2016 and other items.

Barron stated that a delegate would be required to obtain IAPD credentials in order to attend its annual business meeting that is set to take place at the end of January. Barron put her name forward as the department’s delegate and Megan Melendez as an alternate. This motion was also approved.

The meeting minutes for the Oct. 1, 2015, meeting were reviewed by the board -- they were approved by a unanimous vote.
