Woodstock planners put off decision Hearthstone Communities housing plan

Meeting

The Woodstock Plan Commission will continue a hearing on plans to build a three-unit building.

The Woodstock Plan Commission decided to continue a public hearing on a proposal to develop a three-unit building for older residents at its Jan 28 meeting.

Hearthstone Communities is seeking to build the three-unit residence at 930 Northhampton St., where a single-family home is set to be demolished. Hearthstone Director of Sales Beth Burg said the residence would suit elderly individuals and that there is a demand for this kind of housing.

She also said the company owns areas to the north and to the west of the property and the current owner of the 930 plot has spoken with the company regarding a potential sale.

Commission members expressed concerns regarding the plot’s ability to accommodate a structure of that size and noted that the neighborhood consists of one and two-family homes. Following deliberation, the floor was opened for public comment.

Public concerns included the impact on property values and drainage from the proposed building due to the area lacking storm drains.

The commission agreed to Burg's request to continue the hearing at its Feb. 25 meeting.
