Area residents can have microchips inexpensively implanted in their pets from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the McHenry County Health Department Veterinary Public Health Division's Animal Control and Adoption Center (MCAC) at 100 N. Virginia St. in Crystal Lake.
Animals need to be leashed or in carriers, and not currently in heat.
The facility will provide rabies vaccinations ($10 for one year or $25 for three years), microchips ($15) and registration tags (required with rabies vaccination at an additional cost).
Microchipping helps assist the return of a lost dogs or cat. While tags and collars can come loose or fall off, microchips are permanent. The microchips are about the size of a rice grain and are implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. The chips can be scanned for instant identification of the lost pet.
Discounts are obtainable for senior residents as well as for pets that have already been spayed or neutered when owners buy registration tags.
In addition to vaccination and microchipping services, adoption opportunities will be available for those considering or seeking a pet.
