McCullom Lake board members discuss park grand opening

The village of McCullom Lake Board met Aug. 23 to discuss the grand opening of a new park.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

Board meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Village Hall.

President Counley called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M.

Roll Call: By the Village Clerk, Sherri L. Messina

Present: President Counley, Attorney Shaw, Trustees Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter.

Minutes: Trustee Bogacz made a motion to approve the minutes; seconded by Trustee Shepit. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Shepit, Walter=ayes. Trustee Matthesius- abstained. Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Trustee Bogacz made a motion to accept the Treasurers Report; seconded by Trustee Walter. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

Bills: President Counley said to hold off on the bill for the Away with Geese because he doesn’t know why this is so much. Trustee Walter made a motion to pay the bills; seconded by Trustee Shepit. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

Parks & Beach: Trustee Glave brought up that the Grand Opening for the new Park is this Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 and is a formality for the organization that donated the money. The Northwest Herald would also like to do an article about the park. Trustee Glave is going to spruce it up a little bit by adding more flowers and President Counley will be attending the ceremony and he will have Pauly mow over there. The board congratulated Dana on a great job.

Roads: Trustee Walter stated that the curbs on Spring need to be cleaned out. Trustee Shepit mentioned that she is still waiting for Township to come out for the tree trimming on McCullom Lake Road.

Trustee Shepit also suggested having a backup for snow plowing this season. Attorney Shaw mentioned that we would not need a public bid for backup snow plowing. We should check into the landscaping businesses that do snow plowing during the winter time. President Counley mentioned that we are getting to the point where we are going to need a new Village truck for plowing. There is one he would like Trustee Shepit to look at with him and it would be just a temporary fix for a truck right now but it’s around $20,000.

Communications: President Counley received a letter from the IEPA about the grant we submitted so it’s not that we didn’t get any grant funds but that the Federal budget has not been finalized yet so they will be reviewing all the applications and make an announcement in January 2017.

President Counley also received a letter from the City of Woodstock and they are encouraging other municipalities to attend a conference which Senator Althoff will be in attendance at concerning Heroin, Prescription Opioids and Current Drug Trends in McHenry County. The conference will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 8:00 am – 2:30 pm at the McHenry County Luecht Conference Center.

There was also a letter from ERAR Investments LLC a developer who is looking for a variance at 5315 Flanders Road from A1 to R3.

Audience: Kurt Wilcox was in the audience who wanted to introduce himself and he is running for the County Board. Also a Luis Aguilar who lives in our community representing the DNC.

Old Business: Tornado Siren – Trustee Shepit stated we would need around $34,000 to get a Siren with the whole containment package. There are no grants available at this time for a siren. Trustee Shepit made a motion to remove the Tornado Siren from the agenda until she has more information; seconded by Trustee Bogacz. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

Ordinance for Allowing the Village to Inspect Businesses – On Attorney Shaw’s advice Trustee Matthesius made a motion to table this until the next board meeting; seconded by Trustee Fritz. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

New Business: Approve Pay Request 3 Sewer Drainage Phase 4C to Abitua Plumbing for $105109.33. Trustee Matthesius made a motion to approve the Pay Request of $105109.33; seconded by Trustee Bogacz. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

Discussion:

The Village picnic hosted by Neighbors Helping Neighbors was a huge success!

Trustee Glave feels we need to really start replacing trees throughout the Village. She will check to see if there are any grants available for this.

Trustee Matthesius made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:48; seconded by Trustee Shepit. Voice vote: Bogacz, Fritz, Glave, Matthesius, Shepit, Walter=ayes. All in favor, motion carried.

The next board meeting will be September 13, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at the Village Hall.
