GOP candidate Rachael Lawrence, who is running for Algonquin Township Trustee, recently claimed that she has been the target of many negative comments and phone calls from non-supporters during her campaign.
"It's no secret I've spoken out against nepotism and unethical behavior in township government," she wrote on Facebook. "I've received angry, intimidating phone calls from elected officials, harassing messages (one even stating where I live), and slanderous lies being spread on social media which have affected me as well as my family."
Yet, Lawrence insisted she will not stand down.
She explained in her post that she will continue to fight for the citizens of the township and "speak out."
"As trustee, I will be the voice for all those who believe in a fair, transparent, & honest government," she wrote. "If you agree, share this post, talk to your neighbors, call or message me, and above all, seek the TRUTH."
Lawrence has been heavily involved in the Republican Party, including serving at the Republican Party National Convention this past year as a representative for Algonquin's 3rd District.
If she wins her position, Lawrence said she seeks to "inspire other people to get involved in local politics and be informed about local issues."
