Grafton ranked 30th in state in lottery ticket sales for May 2016

The City of Grafton had the 30th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of May 2016 -- up 9 spots from its April ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Grafton was $59.45 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the McHenry Times, Grafton generated $38,821 in net sales from its one lottery retailer in May 2016, compared to $44,645 in May 2015.

The City of Grafton is in Jersey County, and has a population of 653, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in May 2016 was $19,341.26.

Grafton's top lottery retailer is Grafton Amoco located at 200 E Main St, Grafton, IL 62037.

Grafton Amoco generated 100 percent of Grafton's May 2016 lottery ticket sales and 16 percent of Jersey County's sales that month, which was $251,436.50.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top three cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Jersey County in 2015 were Fieldon, Grafton and Jerseyville.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
