A wrap-up of discussions involving U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) and his staff with constituents included tax reform, climate change and clamping down on loopholes in the fight against animal cruelty.
Roskam met with constituents who have vocally opposed some policies set forth by the Trump administration, his wrap-up for the week ending Nov. 3 said. In addition, Roskam met with a Citizens for Climate Change group to go rover environmental issues and with state Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) to discuss the effects of climate change.
The Roskam team pointed to its work on the tax reform bill as its primary progress. That bill, according to Roskam, will bump up the economy and end up leaving more money for middle class families and small businesses. He said recently voted in favor of the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act and extending funding for public health programs for kids.
On the fighting animal cruelty front, Roskam said he introduced legislation that seeks to solidify bans against animal fighting. Known as the Parity in Animal Cruelty Enforcement (PACE) Act, the bipartisan bill spotlights a loophole that exempts U.S. territories “from the federal animal fighting ban and is supported by the Humane Society of the United States” according to a press statement released by Roskam.
In other news, Roskam also met with the National Association of Theater Owners to address labor issues, and checked in with Abbvie, a pharmaceutical company, to be updated on cancer drug research.
