Local gov stock 01

McHenry County issued the following announcement on June 18.

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 40-year-old Kevin Sorensen of Woodstock, Illinois, was sentenced to eighteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Sharon Prather following a sentencing hearing.

Sorensen was sentenced to eighteen years in the department of corrections for the class X felony charge of aggravated kidnapping and was also given a concurrent sentence of four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the class 2 felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Sorensen will also be placed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry as a lifetime registrant.

On August 11, 2017 around 12:45 p.m., Sorensen forcefully removed a four year old boy from his bicycle and carried him away near Olson Park in Woodstock, Illinois. Other children who were riding bicycles with the four year old victim chased after Sorensen and yelled for help as did the boy who Sorensen was carrying away. Two workers who were driving in the area heard the children yelling and observed Sorensen’s actions. The workers observed Sorensen pulling down the victim’s pants. The workers immediately chased after Sorensen. As the workers chased Sorensen he dropped the four year old victim. The workers were able to apprehend and forcefully detain Sorensen along with the help of other neighbors who responded to assist. Members of the Woodstock Police Department arrived shortly thereafter and Sorensen was arrested.

This case was prosecuted by John Gibbons, Chief of the Criminal Division and McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally. The case investigation was conducted by the Woodstock Police Department.
