McHenry County issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.
Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 35-year-old Angel D. Torres, formerly of Harvard, Illinois, was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of attempt robbery, a Class 3 Felony and two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of domestic battery, a Class 4 Felony, following a negotiated plea before the Honorable Judge James Cowlin.
On October 8, 2017, the defendant knowingly made physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with the victim, a family or household member of the defendant, when he pushed her against a wall. The defendant had previously been convicted of the offense of domestic battery by the Circuit Court of McHenry County on August 8, 2014. The sentence on the domestic battery will be served at 50% and is followed by a four year period of mandatory supervised release.
The defendant’s original sentence on the attempt robbery was revoked for failing to comply with the terms of his probation, and he was re-sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. This sentence will be served concurrent to the sentence on the domestic battery offense and is also served at 50%.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Ann Scholl. The offenses were investigated by the McHenry Police Department and the Crystal Lake Police Department.
