Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.
Tom Schenck, with more than 30 years of educational company management and technology product experience, has joined Forward Thinking EDU as an executive advisor. Schenck was most recently president of Follett School Solutions.
“With his extensive experience in software company management, product development, data analysis, and information technology, Tom will be an invaluable asset for Forward Thinking EDU,” said Michael Campbell, founder and principal advisor. “He is widely respected throughout the educational industry and we are thrilled he is joining our team.”
As president of Follett School Solutions, Schenck had overall responsibility for preK-12 products and services, including marketing and selling, product management, development, services, and product distribution. Schenck originally joined Follett in 1989 and served many roles, including president of Follett Software Company.
Prior to his 26-year career with Follett, Schenck co-founded Library Systems and Services, Inc., which specialized in public library automation software and services. After selling the company in 1985, he led software development at The Library Corporation, a producer of public and school library automation systems.
“I have a passion for educators and the educational market and am pleased to join the Forward Thinking EDU team where I will be helping education companies grow their organizational capabilities and delivery of innovative products to their customers,” Schenck said.
Schenck is a graduate of the Computer Learning Center, and earned a bachelor’s of science degree in management studies from the University of Maryland, University College. He has attended the Executive Development Program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he is recognized as a Kellogg Executive Scholar in Leadership and Management.
