Crystal Lake Fire Department issued the following announcement on April 7.
At 6:23 pm, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 4908 Kenneth Drive in Crystal Lake. A mutual aid box alarm was activated at 6:25 due the reports of fire. The first arriving Crystal Lake Fire Rescue unit reported heavy fire coming from the first floor of the residence.
Fire crews discovered a fire on the first floor that originated in the kitchen. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and began checking for any fire that extended elsewhere into the structure. The fire was declared under control in approximately 25 minutes after the arrival of the first fire unit. There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters.
The house sustained fire, smoke and water damage leaving the home uninhabitable. Damage is estimated at about $150,000 to the structure and contents.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Crystal Lake, Cary and Algonquin fire investigators and appears to be accidental.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry Township, Nunda Rural, Union, West Dundee, Wonder Lake and Woodstock Fire Protection Districts assisted at the scene, as well as Crystal Lake Police and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
