Cost of college went up for all students at McHenry County College

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.6 percent for 2018-19 at McHenry County College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $12,146 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $530 more than the $11,616 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 20.2 percent more than residents this year, or $14,603. Their price tag grew 4.3 percent from $14,003 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 43 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 197 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.1 million and 58 students took out student loans totaling more than $266,143.

Including all undergraduates (7,031), 1,435 students used grants or scholarships totaling $6.6 million, and 280 students took out $1.3 million in federal student loans.
