Community Garden Ripe with Growing Potential

16

It’s that time of year to start planning your summer garden at Hoffman Park’s Community Gardens.

If you love to garden but don’t have the space to create one at home, rent a 20 x 30 foot plot at Hoffman Park and enjoy growing your own vegetables, fruits, herbs, plants and flowers on your own or as a family. It’s a perfect opportunity to teach your children about their food and where it comes from.

Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Persons who rented last year will be able to renew the same plot if they register by March 31. To rent, complete a registration form found on the Park District website, carypark.com. Cost is $60 per plot for residents, $51 for resident seniors, $90 for non-residents and $77 for non-resident seniors.

Also, volunteers are needed to plant and tend the Give Back Gardens, several garden plots designated to grow fresh produce for the Cary-Grove Food Pantry. Last year the plots produced over 2,600 pounds of food to donate to the Cary Grove Food Pantry. Use your gardening interest to improve the lives of others and give back to the community.

For more information on garden plot rentals or to volunteer in the Give Back Gardens, contact the Cary Park District at 847.639.6100.
