City of Crystal Lake Historic Preservation Commission met Aug. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

1) Call to Order

L. Solak called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.

2) Roll Call/Attendance

The following Commission members were present, Judi Halter, Diana Kenney, Bob Kosin, Lisa Solak, and Bob Wyman. Nancy Haskins, Brittany Niequist, and Natalie Tyron was absent. City Planner, Elizabeth Maxwell, was present for staff.

3) Public Comment

None.

4) Approval of Minutes of the June 2, 2022 Regular Meeting

D. Kenney made a motion to approve the minutes. J. Halter seconded the motion. On voice vote, all members voted aye. Motion passed.

5) Cemetery Cleaning and Veteran’s Book

D. Kenney had a spreadsheet of all the Veteran’s. She noted that some had ties to Crystal Lake, but were not buried here. They discussed Dion DeMarbelle and agreed that he will stay in the book even though his body has been moved to Elgin.

B. Wyman noted he will go check the headstones he was assigned. B. Kosin said he will research the Dike and Fitch Veterans. These stories were originally assigned to B. Wyman and he agreed to allow B. Kosin to research them.

6) Landmark Meeting Follow Up

Staff confirmed that the owners Roberta and Emily Reed had made an application for Landmark for 215 Illinois Street. A commission member was needed to research the home for the application. B. Wyman volunteered to research the property. Staff will put the public hearing on the September meeting agenda. B. Wyman noted that he will stop by the Colonel Palmer House to drop off some donations and do some research.

7) Member Inquiries and Reports

The Crystal Lake Historical Society has a fund for the cleaning and repairing headstones. They are starting an SOS Save our Stones campaign to beef up fund in the account. She said to look in the newsletter for the article. B. Wyman said that the pillars and plaques look really good.

8) Adjournment

There being no further business, D. Kenney made a motion to adjourn the meeting. J. Halter seconded the motion. All members voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
