FOIA Request to McHenry County Sheriff Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the McHenry Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the McHenry County Sheriff's office. The request, dated January 29, 2025, seeks documents and/or records showing persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we requested a fee waiver for this information.
The aim of this request is not only to inform our readers about the activities of law enforcement agencies but also to shed light on immigration issues within our community. We will continue to follow up on this matter and report any updates as they become available.
