U.S. Sens. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) called on President Obama to confirm whether Iran's recent ballistic missile testing violated United Nations guidelines, and if so, to explain how the White House will respond.
White House and State Department officials have put out statements suggesting the rules were violated, but haven't made any definite indications of whether any actions will be taken.
“As you know, Tehran reportedly conducted a long-range ballistic missile test this weekend," the senators said in a letter to the president. "This test furthers Iran’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) program and heightens risks to Israel and the United States."
The test fire came at a particularly sensitive time between the U.S. and Iran, after the two nations brokered a controversial nuclear accord in July.
