The Village of Algonquin's budget has earned international honors for the 12th straight year.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the village its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current year's budget.

“Algonquin’s annual operating and capital budget is the single most important policy document the Village adopts," Village President John Schmitt said. “By receiving this award, it demonstrates that the Village adheres to best practices in financial management, which allows us to continue to provide efficient and reliable services to the community.”

The village's $37 million 2015-2016 budget is balanced and features a flat property tax. A full copy of the plan can be found on the village's website. www.algonquin.org/egov/documents/1431112029_71238.pdf.

Algonquin was 1 of 1,424 winners nationwide.
