State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-Dist. 32) called for more legislative reforms to address Illinois' economic crisis.

Althoff cited the recent credit downgrade by ratings agency Fitch, as well as unemployment rates and overall job losses as reasons to push harder for changes.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security said Illinois lost nearly 7,000 jobs in September, the fourth straight month of statewide losses, Althoff said.

Jobs nationwide are up 2.9 percent compared with pre-recession levels, but Illinois is still more than 3 percent below its peak, Althoff said.

"According to Senate Republicans, these aren’t just abstract numbers," Althoff said in a statement. "These numbers represent people trying to find work, families struggling to make ends meet and businesses coming to the conclusion that Illinois is not a place to grow."
