Woodstock Transportation Commission discusses impact of heavier, longer trucks

Truck

The Woodstock Transportation Commission discussed truck weight limits on city streets and a bike rack rental system at its special meeting Oct. 21.

Transportation Commission Chairman Andrew Celentano said a recent article indicated weight limits for trucks would be increasing to 91,000 pounds, an 11,000-pound increase, and the length of trucks also would increase. Public Works Jeff Van Landuyt said the weight limit applies mostly to state routes, but the city could add weight restrictions on local streets. The board discussed the potential impact of the heavier and longer trucks on local roads and bridges.

The commission also discussed a presentation by high school students Jordan Loacker, Spencer Stumpf, Sam Wright, Martin Halilaj, Nicholas Gulli, Tess Deringer, Daniel Regna and Pat McGrath on a bike rack rental system. Having a bike rental system would reduce traffic congestion and decrease the use of fossil fuels, the students said.
