The newly renamed Sustainability Committee of Crystal Lake will be establishing its leadership and structure at its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Crystal Lake City Hall.
The committee was renamed the Sustainability Committee in November; prior to the change the committee served as the Clean Air Counts Committee and specialized in sustainability projects in the city, according to an article in the Northwest Herald. Due to the change in name and function, establishment of committee term structure, leadership and future meeting times and days will be open for discussion.
The committee will also discuss the application for Crystal Lake to receive the Bicycle Friendliness designation. The application for the designation of a bicycle friendly community is an extension of the committee’s efforts in promoting cycling in the community and its work in expanding bike lanes and and establishing advocacy events.
The designation of bicycle friendliness comes from the League of American Bicyclists and is awarded to municipalities and universities with policies and plans in place that support the use of bicycles as a means of transportation and recreation.
