The Crystal Lake Planning and Zoning Commission will consider permit requests from Crystal Lake South High School at a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.
The high school is requesting two special use permits, one to allow accessory structures larger than 900 square feet and one for the existing high school. The permits will be utilized to build upgraded bleacher structures around the football field on the western portion of the campus. The city's comprehensive map has the area zoned as R-2 single family, but the request says additional school structures can be allowed through a review process.
The bleachers for the home side would be approximately 42 feet tall with a press box incorporated into its design. The bleachers on the other side of the field would stand at approximately 22 feet tall. The school said the new bleachers would allow a capacity of approximately 3,260 people. The current bleachers have a capacity of approximately 2,000 individuals.
The school also said the site is currently utilized by the school’s athletic program.
