The Crystal Lake Police Department will be performing free child safety seat inspections on Saturday in conjunction with McHenry County Safe Kids. .

The free inspections will be taking place from 9 a.m. to noon at Pauly Toyota, 1035 S. Route 31. There is no registration and no appointment is necessary for the inspection.

Parents are asked to bring their vehicle and car seat with user manuals and the child or children that will be using the seat to the inspection.

Technicians who specialize in child passenger seat safety will be available. They will be presenting information on the proper installation method for safety seats for parents and other caregivers.

The Police Department said approximately 90 percent of child safety seats are incorrectly installed. The department also said that vehicle collisions are among leading causes of death of children under the age of 16.

McHenry County Safe Kids is a part of a national organization promoting education that allows parents to know how to best avoid injury, death and sickness from avoidable dangers. The organization has programs focused on water, fire prevention and gun safety alongside poison avoidance.
