The Lake in the Hills Village Board will be meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss changes to a well motor replacement contract with Municipal Well and Pump.
The agenda packet states that a motor failure at Well 14 resulted in mercury leaking from within the motor seal. The incident will require additional work to repair the well motor and to return it to operation.
The village signed an agreement with the company in October for the well replacement that totaled $149,641. Fred Mullard of the Public Works Department said that in order to complete additional work and decontamination for the well, the contract would have to be modified with a higher cost of $174,083 and to extend it by 60 days. The added cost includes televising services that were necessary to visualize what would need to be done to rectify this issue.
The motor type would also be changed to a less expensive model of the motor pump.
