Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock will host a grammar school volleyball coaching clinic from 9 -11 a.m. July 30.
According to marian.com, coaches and players will be available to run drills and answer questions. Cost to register is $15 per person. Checks should be made payable to Marian Central Volleyball and mailed to: Coaching Clinic, 10338 Brighton Lane, Huntley, IL 60142.
Marian Central, the defending Class 3A champions, will open the season Aug. 22 by hosting Aurora Central Catholic at 6 p.m. The Hurricanes then host Rockford Lutheran at 6 p.m. Aug. 23.
In other recent Marian Central Catholic volleyball news, alumna Abby Gilleland has been hired as an assistant coach at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, according to the Marian Central Catholic program's Facebook page. A news release on TribeAthletics.com says Gilleland will coach the team's setters, and have recruiting and administrative duties.
Gilleland recently completed a strong athletic and academic career at Ohio University in Athens. She was a two-time All-American setter and twice was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. Earlier this year, she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in sports management.
Also, according to NCAA.org, Gilleland is a nominee for 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year. She is on a list of 517 nominees.
