Steven Reick, the Woodstock Republican running for state representative in District 63, recently posted a response on his Facebook page to a story about the drop of Illinois’ unemployment rate and the drop in job creation that was recently published by chicagobusiness.com.
"While states around us are gaining manufacturing jobs by the thousands, Illinois once again sees a decline of 4,400 such jobs in August,” Reick wrote his Facebook page. “It's not because we don't have everything a company needs to thrive here, it's because the dysfunction in Springfield makes them look elsewhere. The status quo in Springfield has got to go."
The chicagobusiness.com story said the Illinois Department of Employment Security reported a decrease in the state’s unemployment to 5.5 percent in August from 5.8 in July, the fourth month in a row that saw the percentage drop. State officials, however, were instead focusing on the fact that Illinois saw a loss of jobs in August, according to IDES Director Jeff Mays.
The department’s monthly report states that nonfarm jobs in the state dropped from 6,016,900 to 6,008,700 during the month. This is less than 1 percent, but the loss of 8,200 jobs included 4,400 manufacturing jobs.
