Cary FPD responds to 22 fires in 2016

Cary Fire Protection District responded to 140 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the McHenry Times.

The calls in Cary included 22 fires - nine structure fires, two vehicle fires and 11 other fires.

In all, the department saw $152,000 in fire loss - or about $6,909 per fire.

The department also received 118 false calls, including five malicious calls and 113 other false calls.

The Cary FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has six active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $58,354 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,652 for every fire in 2016.
